Functions of the Directorate
The functions of the directorate hinges on the mandate of NITA-U provided for under the Act and amongst others will include:
- To establish and implement framework for monitoring and regulating standards for IT planning, acquisition, implementation, delivery, support, organization, sustenance, disposal, risk management, data protection, security and contingency planning;
- To establish and implement framework for monitoring and regulating To regulate the electronic signature and other related matters as used in electronic transactions in Uganda;
- To coordinate NITA-U liaison with other relevant institutions, to regulate the information technology profession in Uganda in order to ensure its effective utilization, promotion and development;
Objectives
- Provide an enabling regulatory environment for the achievement of NITA – U mandate and the implementation of the cyber laws and other related laws.
- Ensure the enforcement of cyber laws, regulations and other related legislation.
- Arbitrate disputes arising between suppliers of information technology solutions and consumers
- Protect and promote the interests of consumers or users of information technology services or solutions.
- Align directorate resources
