MTN Innovation Awards Gala
MTN supported by National Information Technology Authority, Uganda Communications Commision, Huawei, ZTE held the MTN Innovations awards gala where 7 winners were awarded at a colorful event at the Kampala Serena Hotel Victoria Ballroom.
The winners of each of the eight categories walked away with an award plaque and a gift pack containing a fixed phone, smartphone, 4G MiFi, bag, as well as $1,000 cash prize.
Chief Guest ICT Minister, Hon Nyombi Thembo commended MTN for their continued support to ICT and innovation and emphasized Government of Uganda’s commitment to improving ICT Infrastructure in the country for innovations to thrive citing the example of the IAC set by NITA-U for students to develop ICT ideas that can promote business development.
Speaking in support of innovation in the country Executive Director -NITA-U, Mr James Saaka, said “We are committed to improve the quality of innovations and innovators in the country”
He cited the recently launched innovation training program that equips youth with marketable solutions and project management skills. The training targets IT innovators comprising of software and application developers from different IT innovation hubs, incubation centres, students and research groups.
He added that with Cyber Laws in place NITA-U is working to ensure a conducive legal and regulatory environment promoting Intellectual property; patents and copy rights for these innovators.
