Unified Messaging and Collaboration in Government

NITA-U is in the process of Installing, Commissioning and Maintenance of a Unified Messaging and Collaboration system for the Government of Uganda. This is intended to enhance communication and collaboration among Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and Local Governments countrywide; thereby improving service delivery through Office Automation and Centralized Data Access, Enhanced Data Security, Single User Identity for all Government Employees, Infrastructure Optimization, among others.


NITA-U held a meeting to engage MDAs and Local Governments on the implementation progress and obtain user perception and feedback on UMCS.


The workshop drew participants (MDAs and Local Governments) under the Pilot and Second Phase of the UMCS implementation.

Speaking at the meeting Peter Kahiigi, NITA-U eGoverment Director called upon MDAs  to support the rollout of IT Services in order to reduce and eliminate obstacles to the implementation of the Strategy for Rationalization of IT services in Government.

He emphasized the benefits of Unified Messaging and Collaboration System saying “We will see improvement of efficiency and productivity enabling Government employees to work more efficiently and as an end result improve service delivery to the citizen”
